Wayne State University President Irvin D. Reid commented in a news release about the appointment of Tom Watkins, former state superintendent of public schools, as special assistant to the president at Wayne State University. Reid said that Watkins' knowledge of K-12 education, his advocacy for high standards and high achievement for all students and his experience working with administrators and public officials will be assets.
